No equality until trans liberation
My name is Eli Hill, I am an English student and I am a transgender man.
As your Trans+ Officer last year I drafted a Transgender Inclusion Policy for the university. This policy is now in the process of being implemented to make the university a safer, more inclusive place for its trans+ students. If elected again I plan to make a great emphasis on getting this policy pushed through the system in order to ensure we get the rights we deserve.
In the past year, I didn’t have time for everything I hoped to achieve; so this year, if elected, I plan to campaign for a clear stance from the university on toilet usage. We should have the right to gender neutral toilets, as well as the assurance that we can use the toilet that best matches our gender identity.
Trans+ students at Solent need a clear, queer presence at the university. We all deserve to feel safe and accepted at our place of study. University is hard enough without having to fight for your rights while studying. That’s why I want to be re-elected: to fight for your rights for you.
In summary, a vote for me is a vote for:
- a campaign for gender neutral toilets
- getting the university to explicitly support students using the toilet that best matches their identity
- someone who will work not only with the SU, the university and the LGBT+ Society, but with trans+ students themselves to get the best results possible for everyone
I have trained as a Stonewall Young Campaigner so this adds to my experience, which I have lots of from being the Trans+ Students’ Officer for the past year. I have the skills and passion to continue to work for trans+ students at Solent.
Don’t forget: we belong here. Trans+ students need to take up space and have our voices heard. There is no equality until we’re all equal.
