Supporting Societies and Student Life
Hi, my name is Hannah; I am a third year Psychology student and President of the Arts and Crafts Society here at Solent, which I started 2 years ago. My passion and knowledge of the Student Union, and how societies work, has led me to run for Employment and Engagement officer.
University is sold to students as the best time of our lives, and when elected, I will help to make this come true.
Societies at Solent aren't well known or promoted enough, and many students miss out on the opportunity to make new friends, share new experiences and have fun; I will improve publicity for societies by:
- Offering more advertising opportunities
- Increasing the online presence for societies
- Organising Society Showcases
- Publishing a Society Catalogue for new and existing students
Providing memorable experiences for students is important, and I will work alongside societies, collaborating with them to organise more events. The Den is a largely unused space, and an echo of its former self; I want to bring students back with exciting events, whether it be Karaoke nights, or Gaming Tournaments, all with the help of Societies!
The SU can offer more support for societies and I will work alongside each one to create different events each month, offering something for everyone, increasing membership within societies, and engagement with the Union. I will help all societies thrive, and get what they need from the Union and University.
Employability is a big worry for students, and I will tackle this in multiple ways:
- Working alongside local businesses, organisations and charities
- Networking and Job Fayres
- Rebrand Solent Futures to make it accessible to all years
I will work closer with Solent Futures to help all students overcome their worries about their future and job prospects, especially because hardly any of us know what we want to do with our lives, and that extra support is essential. I will be a friendly face to all students, and be able to offer sound advice about employability, confidently guiding everyone in the right direction.
Don't forget to vote Hannah Siddons for VP E&E!
