The time has come to say a fond farewell to our 2019 Sabbatical Officers, here’s a reminder of just some of their amazing achievements over the past year...

GRACE DAVIS

HEAD OF STUDENT VOICE 2019/20 

 
Addressed course issues and helped develop academic policies related to the pandemic.
Worked with the University on the provision of more social spaces on campus.
Worked with the Police and the Council on making the parks around the University safer.
Set up a renters forum in conjunction with Citizens Advice, the Council and local landlords.
Improved student kitchen facilities on campus including the provision of microwaves.
Gave input on the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor.

 

RO TOMLIN-WILLS

 

HEAD OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT 2018/19 - 2019/20

 
Brought you cute animals and a mental health boost with the Refreshing Farm.
Hosted the first ever online Union Awards (despite endless technical challenges).
Campaigned for #BlackLivesMatter and curated resources to help students learn about and support the movement.
Organised an International Christmas Celebration, Christmas Biscuit Decorating and Pumpkin Carving for students.
Involved in the development of the University’s Race Equality Charter.
Campaigned tirelessly for a bouncy castle in the Spark.

HONOUR HEWETT

 

HEAD OF STUDENT WELFARE 2019/20 

 
Lobbied Halls Providers to release students from their contracts during the pandemic.
Provided student supplies to those in need during lockdown.
Launched the Safe Night out Campaign and gained the support of 11 local venues.
Secured funding for anti-spiking kits as part of the Safe Night Out campaign.
Reviewed the Safe Solent Taxi service.
Sat on student disciplinary panels and represented students on extenuating circumstances panels.

Together they have ensured that there is a student voice represented in crucial University meetings across all departments and have been involved in making sure your voice is heard when it comes to important decisions both on and off-campus.

 

We will be very sad to see them go and wish them all the best for the future!
