Hey! I’m Lewis, your Vice President of Employability & Engagement for 2016/17.

I’ve officially been in office for the past 3 and a bit months, which went by scarily fast!

So a bit about myself? For those of you who want to know me a bit better (first ever blog post in my life btw so what I’m writing is probably super cringe-worthy or just not that great but hey ho they will get better as I go…maybe…hopefully)

I am halfway through my degree here at Solent studying Computer Games (Software Development) which is basically computery programmery stuff however I am suspending my studies for a year to do this role, which basically means I’m going to be at Solent for a long time!

Before coming to Solent I had always lived by the sea and used to go down the beach for days out, being just a 2 minute walk down the road to go for a swim definitely made it easy for me. Now living in the Polygon area it is now the furthest I’ve ever lived from the sea. Luckily though even without the lovely Kentish beaches I can still take part in cycling (my other great passion in life), which soon highlighted Southampton as a wonderful place to live; having the New Forest right next door and the Isle of Wight just a short boat ride away there are always places to explore!

I also love most cartoons, anything cat related and a lot of fantasy or oldy times themed stuff like LOTR and Game of Thrones (pretty much stuff with magic and swords and stuff) and if you hadn’t already guessed from the course I did, I also love games :D

So what will I actually be doing over the next year you may ask?

Well over this academic year I will be working hard to get you more out of your time at Solent whether that be by taking up volunteering opportunities and getting involved with societies, through to working with the University to help increase your employability skills and job prospects. I am a strong believer that being at university is one of the best times of your life, and I am here to make sure you get the most out of your time here!

Throughout the year I will also be supporting our clubs & societies to be as fun and active as possible as well as working on a few of my own campaigns and projects which include trying to get official recognition for all of the amazing things you all do outside of your course :)

The Sabbs and I also have an open door policy, so if you have any concerns, or just want to come and have a chat then please do not hesitate to come by and see us. All four of us have been students at Solent for the past few years and know how hard it can be with certain aspects of student life and how daunting it can be moving somewhere new for the first time.

We are now out of the rush of freshers’ and I probably need to go away and learn how to blog properly but thanks for staying with me until the last sentence and I look forward to seeing you all over the course of the academic year!
