AGM stands for Annual General Meeting. Sound boring? Yeah, we thought so too! That’s why this year we’re using our AGM as an excuse to hold a huge Christmas Party over at the Students’ Union with free mince pies and mulled wine!

The SU holds an AGM each year to let students have their say in what the Students’ Union are doing and to approve our next steps as a voice for you guys. But, we know some of us don’t want to spend the whole evening debating and chatting about the Students’ Union. So, we’re also using the lure of Christmas themed nibbles, followed by karaoke, to help make this AGM the biggest one we’ve ever hosted!

The general idea is you guys bring us your suggestions (or motions if we’re being formal), everyone takes a vote and then we work hard throughout the year to make your ideas come to life. Motions can be big or small things; if you’d like to see a change in how we do things at the SU, or just want to suggest we sell your favourite chocolate in the Welcome Centre – we want to hear! All motions will be opened up for discussion and a vote, and can be submitted prior to AGM HERE.

We are looking to you to help us approve our code of practice, affiliations and auditors. There will also be the chance to question the Trustees on issues throughout the union and receive a report from your Sabbatical Officer Trustees. Trustees can sometimes be hard to reach, due to their busy schedules; so this is your chance to quiz the people who govern the union’s policies and makes decisions on matters like your Union’s finances and branding.

The AGM is an important part of making the Union operate the way you want; for you. It’s a chance for everyone to be heard, all ideas to be considered and everything discussed in total transparency. So if you’d like to join us for your say at the AGM or for a cheeky mince pie; head on over to The Den on the 15th December at 5pm!
