Volunteering scheme

Solent SU Volunteering Scheme

You’re already developing a wide range of skills through your course, but there are many other opportunities to help you enhance your skills and help you to grow as a person whilst at Solent University!

Volunteering is a fantastic way to gain workplace experience and valuable transferable skills. It can be done on a regular basis, or as a one off experience. Either way, Solent SU acknowledges what you have done and you can be rewarded in our Volunteering Scheme!

 


 

Award Tiers

 

Bronze

  • Volunteer your time for at least 20 hours within the local community or within the university (this can include societies).
     
  • Be a member of a society at Solent Students' Union. Full list can be found here.
     
  • Create one of the following:
    • A small case study (no more than 500 words) on your volunteering activities.
    • Record a video on your volunteering activities.
    • Pop into the SU Office and talk to our VP Engagement / Activities Coordinator detailing some of the key information regarding your volunteering, as well as some of the skills you have learnt with small videos and case studies to be submitted to student.involvement@solent.ac.uk.

All of the above must be completed to win the Bronze Volunteering Award.

 

Silver

  • Complete all tasks for the Bronze Volunteering Award.
     
  • Volunteer your time for at least 30 hours - This must include both within the local community and within the university (this can include societies). Full list can be found here.
     
  • Create a small description of how you have developed at least two skills whilst volunteering.
     
  • Create a practice CV that incorporates the skills / experience you have gained whilst volunteering and submit this to student.involvement@solent.ac.uk.
     
  • Create one of the following:
    • A small case study (no more than 500 words) on your volunteering activities
    • Record a video on your volunteering activities
    • Pop into the SU Office and talk to our VP Engagement / Activities Coordinator detailing some of the key information regarding your volunteering, as well as some of the skills you have learnt with small videos and case studies to be submitted to student.involvement@solent.ac.uk.

 

4 out of 5 must be completed to win award, 30 hours of volunteering is mandatory. Volunteering hours can be cumulative from Bronze Volunteering Award. 

 

Gold

  • Complete all tasks for the Silver Volunteering Award.
     
  • Volunteer your time for at least 50 hours - This must include both within the local community and within the university (this can include societies). Full list can be found here.
     
  • Write or pop into the SU to explain how our volunteering scheme can be improved.
     
  • Create a small (less than 500 words) submission about the benefits you have encountered whilst volunteering.
     
  • Create one of the following:
    • A small case study (no more than 500 words) on your volunteering activities
    • Record a video on your volunteering activities
    • Pop into the SU Office and talk to our VP Engagement / Activities Coordinator detailing some of the key information regarding your volunteering, as well as some of the skills you have learnt with small videos and case studies to be submitted to student.involvement@solent.ac.uk.

 

  • Provide a reference of recommendation from your volunteering supervisor for receiving the Gold Volunteering Award.

All 6 must be completed to win the Gold Volunteering Award. 50 hours of volunteering is mandatory. Volunteering hours can be cumulative from the Silver Volunteering Award.
