Nominate a student, society or staff member for an award
Nominees will be invited to a virtual watch party on the night and will receive some special goodies to help make their evening extra special.
Awards Include:
Teaching Awards:
Outstanding Teaching Award
This award will be given to an exceptional member of academic staff that has demonstrated a real passion for delivering motivational, challenging, and exciting content.
Excellent Academic Award
This award will be given to a member of staff who has provided excellent academic guidance to students, including support with essay writing, research or any other academic related skills.
Best Teaching Adaptation (TBC)
This award will highlight the tremendous effort a lecturer has gone to, during the pandemic, to ensure their teaching strategies remain highly engaging, accessible, and supportive for all student groups.
Exceptional Student Experience Award
This award will be given to a member of staff that has shown dedication to supporting students in non-academic extracurricular activities.
Student Welfare Champion Award (TBC)
This award will be given to a member of staff that has demonstrated commitment to student welfare, providing them the best possible support and advice.
Volunteering Awards:
Best Contribution to Charitable Fundraising
Eligible: Any Society
For the society that has gone above the call of duty to engage with a local or national charity, either raising funds and/or creating awareness of one or more charities.
Social and Community Impact Award
Eligible: Any Student or student group
This can be for an individual or a group who've done any combination of volunteering, organising multiple projects and/or have fundraised to truly give back to the local community.
Democracy and Representation awards:
Officer of the Year Award
Eligible: Any Student Officer (inc NUS Delegate)
They have been reliable, initiated campaigns, shared keen insights and truly helped with the development of the Students’ Union through their work at Officer Committee and/or NUS National Conference. This can include student officers that have gone above and beyond to create engaging campaigns and have been an active part of creating a positive change for students.
Sabb’s Choice Award
The Sabs choice Award is an award in which each Sabb has the chance to nominate a student that has been an actively involved in the Union and has made a positive impact on the student experience, for example through leading on a campaign, helping with the implementation of a policy or going above and beyond within a society or Student Council. Each sab will have a chance to select one student and the sabbatical team willl then use the scoring sheet to shortlist and decide which student is most eligible for the award.
Most Engaged Student Award
Eligible: All Students
Regardless of their remit or position, this student has been very committed to the Students' Union as well as showing exceptional engagement within the su/university interests.
Innovation and Enterprise Award
Eligible: Any Student or student group
An individual or group that has developed their own social enterprise and has effectively built their own business, developing entrepreneurial solutions to help solve social problems. This can also include groups of students that have led a pre-existing recently formed business.
Alumni Support Award
Eligible: Any Voluntary Alumni
An alumni that has gone above and beyond under any remit to put back into the SU/University after graduating. This can be for an individual alumnus who has contributed their time into putting back into the student experience at Solent.
Inclusivity Award
Eligible: Any Student or student group
Any student or student group that has demonstrated and strengthened their commitment to equality and diversity within the SU/University.
Environmental Award
Eligible: Any Student or student group
Any student or student group that has impacted change in how the su/university can improve their environmental impact.
Event contingency of the Year Award
Eligible: Any Student, Alumni or Staff member
In light of the coronavirus, we are keen to celebrate all members of the Solent Community that have gone above and beyond to adapt their event plans and ensure that their event is a great example what societies/students can do.
Society’s Awards:
Outstanding Contribution to Student Media
Eligible: Any Member of a Sonar Media Society or current solent student.
They've gone to great lengths, to promote cohesion and collaboration within their society and/or sonar media as a whole. They've also used their skills to help align the society/group with industry so it provides an even better student experience. This can also include any student involved in a media related project at Solent University.
Most Valued Society Member (non-committee)
Eligible: Any Student Part of a Society
They’ve gone out of their way to improve the society(s) they are involved in, have excelled all expectations, and done their part to better the society; all without the obligation to do so.
Committee Member of the Year
Eligible: Any Elected Society Committee Member
This is for anyone who's gone beyond the call of duty for their society, working along side the committee and for its members. They've used personal drive to better the society through initiative and commitment.
Best Newcomer Society
Eligible: Any Society That Was Launched This Academic Year
This award goes to the best new society this year. It has attracted members with the activities it organises, the community it offers and the purpose it follows.
Best Society Adaptation to Covid-19 restrictions
In recognition of the severe challenges this year has brought, we are keen to recognise and congratulate the societies that have gone above and beyond to continue creating activities and events for their society members.
Best Academic Society
Eligible: Any academic Society
The academic society that has shown the most commitment to improving co-curricular offerings this academic year.
Best Non-Academic Society
Eligible: Any recreational Society
The recreational society that has shown the most commitment to improving extra-curricular offerings this academic year.
Society of the Year
Eligible: Any Society
This is for any society who've shown themselves to be exceptional, organised and give the best experience to their members. This society has been consistently impressive and really contributed to the student experience.
