Main Manifesto

Hi, my name is Fola Bishi and I’m running for the position of Student Engagement because I believe our University can do more to satisfy the needs of its students and increase engagement.

From experiences such as being on the student council in secondary school, I have developed the required skills and knowledge to be the ideal candidate for this position.

If elected, I will aim to provide societies and experiences for several areas and courses such as media, arts and business students. The students from these 3 courses alone make up 69% of the universities population yet they have no societies to represent them or organise programs relevant to their courses.

I will increase the help students receive with their career decision making, by making more information available on the different existing career paths from the first year. E.g., what jobs students can get with their current degree, which industries require an internship to break in, or what qualifications are needed to gain an advantage over other applicants.

I will arrange more employment events relevant to particular courses. For example, organising recruitment evenings with different companies speaking to students about what it’s like to work in their company and industry, and how to break in.

Lastly, I will work to increase the number of student events that are hosted by the university. For instance, hosting an end of year Ball or Graduate Ball. Thank you for reading my manifesto and feel free to get in contact with me to ask me any questions about my ideas by contacting me at 2bishf04@solent.ac.uk

Questions & Answers

1. How would you help build a community of students at Solent University?

find out students interest and host an event where students with similar interests can meet and socialise.

2. What types of events for students would you like to see on campus?

I would like to see more recruitment evening presentations and more course activities for students.

3. What improvements would you push for catering facilities on campus?

They should wear gloves and hair nets to prevent any potential contamination.

4. How would you make the university and Students’ Union more inclusive?

The university can be more inclusive by providing students with different learning options to ensure each student's potential is maximised. For example, allowing students with anxiety to provide video recorded presentations or not assessing grammar and spelling for students with dyslexia. with the student union, I would host more events that students enjoy. For example, the screening of popular football games, rugby games and American football games. also hosting student performance nights.
