  • Better food options in the library and on campus

  • Bring back reading weeks
  • Support with extenuating circumstances

Main Manifesto

As Head of Education, there are a number of things I want to do, if elected, to help make all students have a better learning experience at Solent.

My number one aim is to have better food options available in the library and around campus and this food to be an affordable price. The library food options are mostly snacks and during deadlines, people need more filling and varied options. Also, around campus, there is very little choice in food and usually what is available is very highly priced (looking at you East Park Deli) so I want to help change this

I want to be there to support students through the extenuating circumstances system. The system requires a lot of time and paperwork and this is not ideal for people facing a tough time. I want to be there to make sure everyone who needs the system can use it as smoothly as possible.

Many students on sports teams are forced to miss lectures and seminars on Wednesdays to represent the university, I want to look at not having classes after midday on Wednesdays so everyone at the university has the opportunity to play competitive sport

I want to look at bringing back reading weeks throughout the year, so students have the time to work towards assignments and deadlines without the added stress of lectures and seminars.

I hope to liaise closely with all student reps on any issues the may arise during the year with their courses and be available for urgent/ emergency meetings if they are ever needed.

Better accessibility and lift access in the SM building is something I want to look into as many of the rooms in this building do not have step free access and mean a number of students cannot reach them.

As someone with an unseen disability and mental health concerns, I am passionate to make sure all students with unseen, chronic and mental illnesses are given the support and understanding they deserve.

Questions & Answers

1. How would you help build a community of students at Solent University?

I think focus needs to be put on the SU as a gathering place and have more events for students to go to and meet with each other. Ask students what they would like to see happen and implement it.

2. What types of events for students would you like to see on campus?

Quizzes, competitions, giveaways, games nights, free movie showings, a society open day to showcase what each has to offer for students.

3. What improvements would you push for catering facilities on campus?

Cheaper prices, more options in the library, a wider variety throughout campus, more options for those with dietary restrictions, halal and other religious meat options, more vegetarian and vegan options including quorn and other substitutes instead of just salad.

4. How would you make the university and Students’ Union more inclusive?

Hold a wide variety of events to include everyone, celebrate religious holidays of all faiths, support causes that effect different backgrounds, listen to what students want done to feel more included in the university experience.
