Becoming Vice President of Engagement means more than just a job; it's allowing all of us students to not just engage with the university and the student union but to engage with each other.
From being Head of Video at LES, the largest society at Solent, to being a Student Ambassador and Library Ambassador, I have gained a variety of experiences and perspectives on the diversity of Solent University. Representing students in this role means allowing everyone the time and space to engage with Solent in whatever is best for them, no matter who they are or how they want to engage.
The cost of living crisis is impacting students already, but it will continue going into the future. It will undoubtedly affect how we engage and how much time we have to do so. Having additional jobs shouldn't prevent us from having the student experience we all want.
I am a queer woman, and although I do a good job pretending to be an extrovert, I'm, at heart, an introvert.
I will create introverted spaces where people of minorities can engage but are not required to socialise in large, loud groups. Inclusive LGBTCQ+ spaces should not revolve around alcohol and nightlife.
I will create spaces and events that people will genuinely engage with, not for the sake of the university but for our experience as individual students. Everyone deserves a meaningful space within their community where they feel safe and prioritised.
