Manifesto

Candidate for the position of Men's Health Students' Officer

Stuart Argent

men's health matter and is valued

I am applying for the role because I have seen the culture and many struggles that affect men. Specifically the way guys often feel like they can't ask for help because of fear of being seen as weak. Growing up i never saw another man saying it’s okay to be emotional or even openly admitting they are struggling. But i also now understand that overdoing this can make those men who cannot cry myself included, feel excluded.

Many men often feel like they have to be tall and strong. There isn't enough conversation about mens body issues as well. It doesn't make you any less of a man for being skinny or fat, ect.

I am extremely passionate about relationships and sexual issues as i feel like men in general are completely excluded from conversations about domestic abuse and abusive relationships. I want to change how men and genders affect how we see and treat each other. For example you shouldn't feel ashamed when asking for help regardless of your gender. It's not just culture with men either but how women see men in some aspects as many feel like they aren't supposed to ask a guy if he is okay because men are supposed to deal with things alone. Another issue is loneliness. A massive cause of the men's mental health crisis often is loneliness. . Males deserve to consent, to be listened to and to not be used or seen as the other gender.

It's okay to be yourself. Don't be afraid of being who you are. Just don't hurt anyone in the process.its okay to compliment guys. It's okay to ask a guy for help. So many guys are excluded and isolated because of how people regardless of gender or identity have a certain culture or view of men.

I want men's health to be taken seriously regardless of gender. Even men need to take their own health more seriously and others' health. I have mental health illnesses myself as well as special needs so i have experience with men's health. I'd listen and speak for all genders about men's health in society and at solent uni.
