Vote Chantelle for Women’s Officer!

Hi, my name is Chantelle! I’m an MA Post-Production student and I’m running to be your Women’s Officer.

I am running because I want all women at Solent to have a positive and empowering university experience and I believe having strong representation within the student union is a key part of ensuring this. In the role I hope to represent YOU and the things YOU care about. If I’m elected, I pledge to:

Actively address the issues that are important to the women of Solent and ensure there are safe spaces for women to speak up about issues affecting them, whether out in the open or more discreetly.

Work towards mandatory consent workshops during Freshers, which will address issues including, no means no and victim blaming, which I hope will create a positive consent culture amongst the students.

Push towards organizing, self-defence classes for students.

Launch a university wide campaign on mental health amongst the female students to widen the conversation and promote positive and healthy steps towards improving mental health.

Work alongside the LGBT+, Trans, Religion & Faith and BME officers (among others) to increase diversity and inclusion across the university to improve the experiences of all women.

Increase the availability of free sanitary products for students, including Menstrual Cups.

If elected I promise to use my position as the Women’s Officer to fight for the issues I have spoken about in this manifesto, as well as other issues brought to my attention during my time as an officer, I have spent time as a student representative and a student coach in my previous university and understand and am prepared for the demands of representing students.

I am immensely passionate about tackling sexism and the issues that women of all walks of life face because of it, I want women in Solent to feel free from the chains that sexism and discrimination place on them and feel empowered to step forward themselves in fighting for inclusion and equality within the university and further afield.
