Never has housing been so important

Hello,

My name is Samuel Cotton, and I am currently a level 5 studying business management. I would like to start by thanking you for reading my manifesto and hope that you will help me support you by making me your student housing officer. I believe I would be the best choice for this role because of my extensive knowledge in housing but more importantly my desire to do my best for every single student I represent at Solent University.

My Aims-

  • Covid-19- With the risk of local lockdown and as we’ve seen across the country student residence in lockdown I want to assure you that if elected I would work with the university on your behalf to ensure you have access to basic necessities such as food, sanitary products, and mental health support. Additionally, to this giving you easy and fast access to help, support & guidance.
  • The Friend Initiative- Ensuring that all students can get to know their flat mates online before meeting them to make them feel more comfortable about moving away from home.
  • Encourage and continue to support the use of the SAASH scheme run by Solent University, Southampton University, and Southampton Council to give students accredited landlords and help provide students with high quality & safe housing.
  • Educate and raise awareness of your renting rights.

In these unprecedented times we are met with even greater challenges such as self-isolation and online learning, meaning that NEVER has there been a greater requirement that our accommodation feel like a home.

If elected my plan would not only be to deal with the issues arising from Covid-19 but to deal with all other challenges that we students continue to face with our housing.
