Salary: Grade 3.1 – currently £17,871 per annum

 

Overview of position

Solent Students’ Union has a vision where every student will have an excellent student experience at Solent University.

We are a student led, registered charity guided by our values, we enrich the student experience through opportunities, support, influence and action.

We are recruiting for a full-time Communications Coordinator. The successful candidate will join the Communications department, a small group of creatives who are at the heart of Union activities ensuring that all Union activity is communicated effectively with our 11,000 members. You will also be a key part of building and protecting the Union’s reputation locally and nationally.

Duties

  • Work closely with the Communications Manager in all aspects of the function of the Communications Department.
  • To develop innovative ways to communicate with students and other stakeholders to drive increased awareness and engagement across all Union activities.
  • To develop and coordinate the Union’s online presence working with the Communications Manager to develop a comprehensive social media plan.
  • Ensure digital content is up to date, relevant and accessible.
  • To create and implement annual communication and engagement plans for all Union departments.
  • To promote the activities of the Students’ Union across all university sites, including; East Park Terrace; Warsash Maritime Academy; Below Bar and Student Residences.
  • To ensure printed materials and communications sites are kept up to date and in good condition and that publicity across campus is current and relevant.
  • To develop systems in support of producing and distributing marketing materials.
  • To produce press releases about all aspects of the Union’s work as required.
  • To monitor and report on the impact of communications and awareness campaigns.
  • To co-ordinate events and projects as required.
  • To support the Designer in structuring and generating content for our quarterly student guide.

ACTIVITIES INTERN

We are a student led, registered charity guided by our values, we enrich the student experience through opportunities, support, influence and action.

We are looking for a professional, passionate and enthusiastic person to join our Student Involvement team as an Activities Intern for a fixed period between 10th September 2018 and 21st December 2018. This role is fundamental to the “Relationships” theme of our strategic plan and has responsibility for supporting students in core Union activities including societies, volunteering and student-led projects.

The post holder will provide staff support to the Vice President of Employability and Engagement and must be passionate about the benefits of involvement in student societies and volunteering to our members and demonstrate an acute understanding of their importance in achieving our Vision and Mission.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills; a strong customer or membership focus and demonstrate excellent attention to detail. They will have the ability work on their own initiative as well as being a proactive team member with the ability to prioritise a changing workload. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, a ‘can do’ attitude and an ability to communicate complex information to students, officers, service managers and key University staff. They will believe that every student matters and clearly demonstrate a commitment to our organisational values.

Solent Students' Union is looking for a Student Trustee. The Trustees are ultimately responsible, individually and collectively, for all activity within Solent Students’ Union. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting the vision and values of the organisation and for ensuring the delivery of organisational purpose. The Trustees ensure the development of, and agree on a long-term strategy and approve and monitor plans to deliver the strategy.
