How We Help.
Organising and Leading the Event -
At the SU, we take pride in drawing attention to safety issues, such as street harassment and gender-based violence. Therefore, every March near International Women's Day, we organise a Reclaim The Night march throughout the parks of Southampton, to fight against violence towards women.
Raising Awareness and Community Engagement -
Over the years, and this year, we have organised pre-march activities to get everyone prepared. These include creative activities, such as sign-making, but also important conversations from guest speakers and charities. We believe that enhancing voices and having challenging conversations can build community and hopefully lead to breaking the stigma and raising awareness towards gender-based violence.
Supportive Environment -
As previously mentioned, local charities and guest speakers are also invited to our event to provide an insight on what they do and how they support women and violence. We aim to make this event feel as safe and supportive as possible. We want to make it clear that all students can attend this event, and it is a trans safe environment, as per all of our SU events.
Representation and Voice -
As a student-led organisation, we want to highlight that the students of Southampton Solent University are at the forefront of what we do. Therefore, we're here to remind you that you can help shape the event, raise any concerns you may have, and push for what you believe in. We will take everything you suggest into consideration at all times, not only for this event, but for all of our events.
