Solent Students’ Union wants to express our deepest sympathies to all affected by the earthquake that struck the Turkish – Syrian border in the early hours of Monday morning.

People in the affected areas, and globally, will be mourning the loss of families, friends, and loved ones, and this extends to students at Solent University who may also be grieving, struggling to return home or concerned for those who are missing or have not been in contact since the earthquake. We ask that everyone shows compassion and support to our students at this difficult time.

As a Students’ Union, one of our top priorities is to ensure the wellbeing and welfare of all our students. We want our students to know that if they need support, Solent University is here to help and we encourage those affected to approach the Student Hub, who can be contacted here.

If you would like to show your support, the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched an appeal for both Turkey and Syria. Those who are able to are being asked to donate via the DEC website to allow DEC charities and their local partners to scale up their response and reach more people.
