Southampton Pride

Hanna tells us all about Southampton Pride, which is taking place this weekend!

Southampton Pride is happening for the second year, this Saturday (August 26th). Not only is there the Pride Parade at 1pm, there’s a whole day of events in Guildhall Square!

The organisers focus on creating a family friendly environment, and they definitely managed this last year and we can’t wait to see what they’ll have created from this year – from a children’s area, to two huge stages with the following acts, it’s going to be an amazing day! It’s also a free day, and there will be food outlets, bars, and all sorts of stalls along with fundraising within the event, so do get involved with as much as you can.

I’ll be spending my day volunteering, stewarding the event and trying to make sure everyone is having the best time possible – if that sounds like something you’d like to do they’re still looking for volunteers so if you can spare any time please do get in touch with the organisers. It’s set to be a really fun day and every single volunteer I’ve met so far has been absolutely wonderful, so even if you’d be turning up on your own there’s no need to worry.

We’re also really proud of Solent University for sponsoring the event, which is run by a committee of five volunteers, and is free for all those attending. Support like this is crucial for events to run, and we’re proud that Solent is committed to promoting equality in the city not just for students and staff, but for the entire community!
