Today is the first meeting of SOSU’s Accessibility Audit, led by me – your VP Welfare & Community! We’ll be meeting in the SU Lounge at 10am, and chatting about how we feel is best for the audit to be completed. My aim in creating this project is to allow for dialogue and discussion between students with access needs and university staff, around any issues that are faced and to also help communicate the good things about Solent! This is part of my wider manifesto point, around supporting our liberation groups on campus and helping those who define into those groups to work well together too.

I’m still looking for people to join the group, and despite today being the first meeting I’m happy to hold multiple meetings in the near future with any students who feel they would like to be interested. You don’t have to have declared an access need to Access Solent to be involved, but you do need to self define as having access needs and be willing to talk about the issues you face so we can collectively work on making change!

We’ll also be inviting out new Disabilities Students Officer to join the group at a later date after elections – so if you haven’t voted yet head over to www.solentsu.co.uk/vote before Friday!

If you want to know more or get involved, please get in touch with me!  You can either email on; su.welfare@solent.ac.uk, tweet; @Solent Welfare or just pop into the office! I’m always happy for a good chat!
