Role title: Design and Visual Communications Coordinator
Responsible to: Head of Communications & Engagement
Strategic Relationships: Students, Officers, Staff, Senior Managers and Trustees from Solent Students’ Union. External suppliers and customers.
Hours of work: 35 hours per week plus additional hours as necessary although this is not expected to be excessive.
Purpose of post: To design artwork and promotional material following brand guideline which effectively communicate information about Students’ Union activities and services to a diverse membership.
Salary: £23,000 – 27,000 per annum
Duties and responsibilities
1. Design and identity
- Create assets for print or digital use, designed to a high standard regarding layout, hierarchy and typography, such as social graphics, posters, flyers, booklets, etc.
- Work competently with a range of media, including graphic design, photography, and video.
- Combine strategic awareness with creative execution, ensuring our members are the focus of the creative output.
- Coordinate the content and delivery of publications and promotional items, handling outsourced printing to ensure items are delivered on time and as intended.
- Coordinate the photography and video recording of Union activities and events.
- To advise staff and Officers on the most effective design for use in the promotion and marketing of the Students’ Union services in line with the organisations brand guidelines.
- To support with the design and branding of the Students’ Union website and all digital output.
- To identify design trends and issues through research and feedback from internal and external stakeholders, advising staff & Officers and developing activity as required.
- To act as a brand guardian, ensuring all applications are consistent with the Union’s visual identity and values.
2. Supporting the Union’s communications activities
- To work closely with the Head of Communications and Engagement to ensure that all staff, officers and departments of the Students’ Union have sufficient communications and promotional resources for all events, activities, campaigns and services.
- To manage artwork requests as part of annual communication plans.
- To assist with the distribution and removal of communications material as required.
- To collate all information for Union publications alongside the Communications Coordinator within required deadlines and ensuring accuracy at all times.
- Be responsible for the orderly storage of images, footage, audio, and artwork files.
- Maintain systems and processes to manage requests from colleagues, including design production and printing.
3. General
- To comply with all Solent Students’ Union policies, procedures and governing documents.
- To work within Solent Students’ Unions Mission, Vision and Values at all times.
- To be responsible for all Health and Safety requirements related to the role.
- To work proactively to ensure environmental sustainability of all operations.
- To work in effective collaboration with Elected Officers and staff from all departments of the Students’ Union
- To attend all relevant meetings, preparing papers and reports as and when required.
- To assist in key events throughout the year such as Fresher’s Fayre and elections as necessary.
- To assist with the recruitment and training of staff where appropriate.
- To carry out all other duties that may be assigned by the Students’ Union
- To portray a positive image, both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness and professionalism.
