Manifesto

Candidate for the position of LGBT+ Students' Officer

Lily Scott

Hello, I'm Lily (She/her). I'm a queer trans woman in my first year at Solent and I'm standing for the LGBT+ officer rolle. I understand that as a community we face an incredible amount of pressure, emotionally and mentally, and many of us can find that exhausting. Having personally gone through many of these hardships, I'm making it my mission to support anyone suffering through similar difficulties.

Here's some things I'm currently involved in:

  • I am currently the co-president for the LGBTQ+ Society
  • I've worked with queer associations such as National Student Pride and Peoples Pride Southampton to promote acceptance and bring together communities
  • I'm working with Solent Futures to provide tips and services for the LGBTQ+ community

What I strive to do:

  • As your LGBT+ Officer, I aim to create a more inclusive atmosphere at Solent. To do this I will focus on the following areas:
    • Workshops for educating students and staff on LGBTQ+ issues and creating a safer environment for our community
    • Safe spaces around campus for queer students to meet and socialise
    • Listening to students about issues they may face and working with them to resolve them
    • Ensuring there is a strong enough support service for LGBTQ+ mental health

I hope that I can represent you and this community in the way that it deserves this year.

Thank you,

Lily
