Tackling Stigma, Together

Men's mental health is a topic that I am extremely invested in. Being someone who personally understands the effects it can have, I believe that I would be the perfect candidate for the position of Men's Health Student Officer.

I am a naturally empathetic person, and strongly believe that everyone should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity, especially when it comes to the topic of mental health. As men, we can face a great deal of stigma when it comes to emotions, even for something as simple as expressing them. I will make it my absolute priority to eliminate this ridiculous view that we are "weak" for feeling down. It is up to us to build each other up, not tear ourselves down.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for young males such as myself, a fact that breaks my heart to know. I have been here myself, and want to make sure that no one else feels that it is their only way out. I don't see the position of Student Officer as some fancy title or pedestal to stand upon. I see it as a way that I can help people who, like myself, struggle with their feelings and give them as best a support network as possible. I believe that this sensitive position is best held by someone with an innate understanding of what we need and how difficult it can be, someone who appreciates the situation, and knows, precisely, what they are standing for.

I guarantee you that I will do my absolute best to improve the support for all men at this university, and that if anyone has any concerns or problems that need addressing, you can always come to me.
