Hello!
My name is Winston Alla, but I like to be called Winst! I was born and brought up in Berkshire, but my family is from the Philippines. I graduated in 2021 from Solent University with a BA Popular Music Performance & Production. I am currently studying for my MA Post Production for Film & TV.
Last term I really enjoyed meeting and interacting with students from a range of cultures and communities and wanted to continue building on those relationships for another year, to help cultivate an innovative and empathetic community on campus. I've enjoyed the opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are keen on improving the student experience - I'm looking forward to meeting more people this year!
For me it is being a part of an inclusive and valuing community - the SU is led by students for students! It is having the responsibility to be able to improve student's university experience, and the opportunity to lead change and improvement for the SU.

My progress
Improve the student voice of Warsash Maritime Cadets
I have been representing cadets concerns and feedback to both Warsash Maritime School Director and Solent University including accommodation and teaching quality.
Warsash Maritime School Liaison Officer and I met with Head of Estates and Facilities to represent cadets’ issues on accommodation.
Lobby the University to provide more support for international students
The three sabbaJcal officers (VP EducaJon and Wellbeing) and I have created an InternaJonal Student handbook to support the new and returning international students once they arrive in the UK/City. It is currently up on our website and physical copies are available around campus.
Improve and support library services
I am pleased to announce that the library has new more powerful systems. The new PCs/iMacs are on floor 2A, which are for group study sessions. Floor 1A has hot desks where you can plug your own laptop to an external screen. These new systems are now ready for students to access.
Enhance the postgraduates’ student experience
Following the feedback from course committee meetings, we have represented the issues such as directed learning, and more compact/efficient timetabling to allow communiting students to come to campus only a few days a week for longer hours making it more worth it to commute. It also enables students working part time jobs to have a more consistent free hours.
