Sabbatical Officers & Volunteer Officers

Your Sabbatical Officer team is elected by you each year to help develop confident students, campaign for change, and ensure your time at University is as good as it can be. Each officer has a specific remit to look after, helping to improve your experience as a student at Southampton Solent University.

Sabbatical Officers

Your Sabbatical Officer team is elected annually to represent all students at Southampton Solent University.

Their mission? To enhance your student experience by championing your needs, sparking positive changes, and ensuring that your time at Southampton Solent University is as great as it can be! 

Each officer focuses on specific areas to make your university journey smoother and more fulfilling. So, rest assured, you've got a dedicated crew working behind the scenes to make your university days as awesome as possible!

Your 2025/2026 Sabbatical Officers:

  • ABMO Students' Volunteer Officer Arzia is our ABMO Students’ Officer for 2025/26 and acts as the primary student representative of Asian, Black, Mixed and Other students at Southampton Solent University. They ensure that ABMO students' voices are heard on the issues they face and that they are considered in decision-making at Solent University.
  • Activities and Societies Students' Volunteer Officer Alex is our Activities and Societies Students’ Officer for 2025/26 and acts as the primary representative for all Societies and their members at Southampton Solent University. He ensures that the voices of all relevant students are heard on the issues they face and that they are considered in decision-making at Southampton Solent University.
  • Chair of Student Council Liya is our Chair of Student Council for 2025/26. She oversees the running of the Student Council, chairs all meetings, ensures documents and amendments are accurate, and works closely with the Student Voice Coordinator.
  • School Rep Business, Law and Society Caitlin is the School Representative for Business, Law and Society. She is responsible for promoting her school and serving as a liaison between the School, the University and the Students' Union, while also acting as the face of all other Course Reps in their relevant School.
  • School Rep Creative Industries Alice is the School Representative for Creative Industries. She is responsible for promoting her school and serving as a liaison between the School, the University and the Students' Union, while also acting as the face of all other Course Reps in their relevant School.
  • School Rep Technology and Maritime Industries Matthijs is the School Representative for Technology and Maritime Industries. He is responsible for promoting his school and serving as a liaison between the School, the University and the Students' Union, while also acting as the face of all other Course Reps in their relevant School.
  • Trans Students' Volunteer Officer Maple is our Trans Students' Officer for 2025/26 and acts as the primary representative for all students at Southampton Solent University who identify as Trans. They ensure that the voices of all Trans students are heard on the issues they face and that they are considered in decision-making at Solent University.
  • Union President - Student Voice Mohammad Galib represents the collective student voice and is present in high-level meetings with the University. He also works closely with key stakeholders, such as Governors and Trustees, to implement improvements to the student experience.
  • Union President - Communities and Wellbeing Sanidhya Shetty represents the collective community and wellbeing of all Southampton Solent students. She takes a leading role in the development of health, wellbeing, equality and diversity initiatives, student group activities, physical wellbeing, volunteering, and fundraising.
  • Disabilities Volunteer Officer Aaliyah is the Disabilities Volunteer Officer who proactively represents disabled voices. She ensures that the Students’ Union takes the views and needs of disabled students into account and undertakes projects and campaigns to support disabled voices.
  • International Volunteer Officer Ayush is the International Volunteer Officer and proactively represents international voices. He ensures that the Students’ Union takes the views and needs of international students into account and undertakes projects and campaigns to support international voices.
  • Womens' Volunteer Officer Melissa is the Womens’ Volunteer Officer and proactively represents women’s voices. She ensures that the Students’ Union takes the views and needs of women into account and undertakes projects and campaigns to support women’s voices.
