Southampton Solent Students’ Union officially launched the Duke of Edinburgh scheme yesterday at the Mayor’s suite, in presence of The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Southampton Councillor Ivan White and key stakeholders.
Southampton Solent Students’ Union officially launched the Duke of Edinburgh scheme yesterday at the Mayor’s suite, in presence of The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Southampton Councillor Ivan White and key stakeholders.
As of 1st April 2014, Southampton Solent Students’ Union became the first students’ union in the UK to hold a Duke of Edinburgh Award licence with Southampton Solent University becoming the first University in the South East of England to be able to issue this award to students.
The scheme was launched in presence of The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Southampton Councillor Ivan White and some representatives of Southampton City College, St James and Southampton Solent University; including Professor Jenny Anderson, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Sports and Enterprise; Phil Green, Director of Sport Solent and several Solent students.
Lorna Reavley, SU Chief Executive said “We are very proud to work with Southampton Solent University to offer this programme to our students. We aim to have 60 students receiving a DofE award by the DofE 60th Anniversary in 2016”.
Hannah Mullarky, Vice-President of Student Engagement and gold participant of the programme, added: “I want to be an ambassador for the scheme and encourage Solent students to take part. With this programme, I personally aim to test my dedication, endurance and time management”.
