VOTING in the VP Education Bye Election has begun, and you might be wondering - What’s the big deal? Who should I vote for? Why should I vote?

Like any election you vote in, whatever the outcome, it will directly affect you.

Your Sabbatical Team represents you in many ways, from providing personal and academic support to leading campaigns which tackle issues affecting your student experience.

Whoever is elected for the position of VP Education will be the lead representative of the Union on matters concerning your education to the University and relevant external bodies.

The candidate you elect will also:

  • Lobby the University and hold them to account
  • Tailor Solent Students’ Union services to the needs of currents students as they evolve
  • Take part in National Political Campaigns which affect students’ education
  • Lead on the Course Representative programme
  • Have access to lobby the University at levels no other student has via regular meetings with the Vice-Chancellor and University Panels.
  • Work with the local community and City Council to improve services for students within the City.

And let’s not forget they also organise Fresher’s Fortnight, SU events and Graduation Ball!

Who you should vote for is entirely up to you, but why should you vote for them? Your Candidates have that covered. Check out all the candidate manifestos here: www.solentsu.co.uk/vote.

If you don't want to vote for any of the candidates then you can vote to Re-Open Nominations (RON).

Want to find out more about what your candidates can offer you? Do you have any questions you want to ask? Your Students’ Union will be running Question time tomorrow night:

  • Question Time at The Den (SU Bar) – 5:30pm

Question Time is an opportunity for voting members (that’s you) to quiz the candidates as they take to the stage to convince you to vote for them. Live tweeting will be happening throughout, so if you have anything you want to say but can’t make it, you can tweet them with the hashtag #VoteSolent.

Voting takes place from 9am Monday 11th April through to Friday 15th April. The results will be revealed in the SU that Friday evening.
