We want to hear how the closure of Safe Solent will affect you!
IMPORTANT UPDATE: Safe Solent Service Closure
We regret to inform you of the Safe Solent service closure for the 2024-2025 academic year. We rely on financial support from Solent University to provide many of our services. As this funding will reduce by almost £25,000 next year, we are unfortunately unable to meet the costs associated with running Safe Solent. We recognise the impact this may have on your sense of security while on campus and want to assure you that your safety remains paramount to us.
For now, we want to offer you some practical tips to help you stay safe, especially during darker hours when travelling home:
-
Take a Mate: travel with a friend or in a group whenever possible. There's strength in numbers; having someone with you can deter potential risks.
-
Stay Aware: be vigilant of your surroundings and trust your instincts. Don't hesitate to change your plans or seek assistance if something feels off.
-
Stick to Well-Lit Paths: opt for well-lit routes and avoid shortcuts, especially through dimly lit areas. Visibility is crucial to staying safe.
-
Emergency Contacts: ensure you have emergency numbers saved on your phone and keep it charged at all times. Quick access to help can make a massive difference in an emergency.
We understand that the absence of the Safe Solent initiative may raise concerns among the student body, and we value your feedback - share your thoughts on how the closure will affect your Solent experience, so we can encourage the university to provide funding to run it.
