About Safe Solent
Safe Solent is brought to you by you Students' Union to replace the Night Bus Service that previously ran.
The service is to help facilitate late night study to our students that make use of the Library's late night opening hours, we want to make sure that you can keep up with your studies but have peace of mind that you can get home safe during late evenings, nights and early mornings spent in the library.
Running times
Safe Solent is back for your 2023/24 academic year to get you to your door after your late night or early morning studies.
- Monday 6th November - Friday 17th November 2023
- Monday 27th December - Friday 15th December 2023
- Monday 8th January - Friday 19th January 2024
- Monday 22nd April - Friday 17th May 2024
During the winter months, safe solent will run from 5pm until 11pm, 7 days.
Whenever the service is live, weekends are included but only for the time period mentioned. Outside of these times, the service does not run on Saturday or Sundays.
How to use the service
- After studying in the library, go to the desk on your left as you enter the Library
- Use the Radio Taxi phone at the Safe Solent desk to book yourself a taxi (make sure you provide your name and student ID otherwise it won't work)* You do not need to use the Radio Taxi app during any stage of booking or waiting for your taxi.
- Your taxi will arrive and take you home, free of charge! Due to the roadworks taking place on East Park Terrace, the pick-up point for Safe Solent will temporarily be on New Road, next to the Reginald Mitchell (RM) building, Sir Christopher Cockerell (CC) building and Herbert Collins (HC) building.
- Don't forget to come back to Solent SU or the Solent Library desk and leave some feedback about your experience.
*Please note. The taxi scheme is able to take you to university halls or private residences in the City Centre, Polygon, Shirley, Northam, Bassett Park, Bassett Green and Portswood or the Central Train Station for commuting students.
