Melissa Waters is our Womens' Volunteer Officer for 2025/26. She represents the women's voices of Southampton Solent University.

My name is Melissa Waters, and my role is Womens' Volunteer Officer, which essentially means protecting women's needs on campus, as well as promoting safety and celebrating femininity.
I'm a mental health nursing student. I hope to graduate in 2026
I'm from Essex!
I love a night out, particularly at Jesters. It's got such a safe community feeling that's incomparable to any other spot in Southampton. When I'm not on a night out, you can catch me in one of Southampton's lovely parks journaling.
My tip for making the most out of the SU is to use it! Attend the events; they're a great way to meet people and fill any downtime you might have in your week. Also, check the website regularly to see different top tips or recipes, it's just such a great feature of our lovely SU.
Representing the students means a lot to me. I've always been very passionate about protecting and celebrating women's rights, so to have the opportunity to do this in an environment in which we all face a lot of the same issues and stresses is such a great, fulfilling thing for me.
While I'm your Womens' Volunteer Officer, I'm most excited to start celebrating. Whilst it's important to focus on the injustices we see and face these days, it's also important to recognise and celebrate the beauty of all kinds of women and what we contribute to society.
