What does the SU President do?

The SU President is the main point of contact for students, externals and media, as well as the main representative for students at Solent. They’ll be involved with organising budgets and recruitment, and attend student council, national conferences, training and meetings to help make positive change for students at Solent.

 

Who do they work with?

They have regular contact with student organisations and bodies such as NUS and ensure everything is in place for SU staff to achieve their aims and run successful campaigns. They also work alongside the SU Chief Executive to manage the rest of the Sabbatical Officer team, and are responsible for ensuring everything the Union does is for the benefit of our students, and that their needs are reflected in the events and activities we run.

 

 

What does the VP Education do?

Vice President of Education is the lead representative for the Students’ Union on all matters concerning Education at Solent and other external bodies. They deal with issues such as timetabling and academic misconduct procedures, with their main responsibilities being the Course Rep scheme, which they deliver and develop. They make sure all Course Reps have relevant training in place, and that this is planned and delivered to a high standard. The VP Education is also involved in academic reviews, such as the Periodic Academic Review and the QAA.

 

Who do they work with?

They liase with the university, and co chair relevant committees regarding course representation, and communicate with various academics for events and the Course Rep scheme. They work closely with the chief exec of the Students’ Union on the delivery of educational or academic research, such as NSS. You’ll have regular contact with the university on behalf of the SU and students on areas for improvement. They also work with the NUS and any other relevant legislative or regulatory bodies on behalf of the membership on Education issues.

 

 

What does the VP Employability and Engagement do?

The VP employability and engagement is responsible for identifying and raising all issues relating to employability and engagement, and runs campaigns relating to the enhancement of employability and engagement for students at Solent. They take care of enhancement opportunities for students, including; societies, volunteering, placements, work experience and other opportunities. They represent students at Solent at various SU committees, boards and meetings. The VP Employability and Engagement will monitor all societies and make sure they are adhering to the societies constitution and the policies of the union, as well as ensuring the training of all society members and volunteers is planned and delivered to a high standard.

 

Who do they work with?
The VP Employability and Engagement works closely with societies and their elected committees as well as with the university’s Employability and Engagement team.

 

 

What does the VP Welfare and Community do?

The VP Welfare and Community represents students on all matters relating to welfare and community, including student support, health, safety and wellbeing, ethical and environmental issues, as well as representing students in the community. They will organise union activity with the local community, including the delivery of community initiatives and activity. They will represent the Students’ Union at various committees and forums, including; Student Experience Sub Committee, Student Equality Forum, Interfaith Forum, Safer Students Forum and attend any other relevant meetings or training.

 

Who do they work with?

They will work closely with the SU Advice Service, and provide advice to the university on behalf of students at Solent, for areas for improvement. Along with the rest of the Sabbatical Officer team, they will campaign for student rights, and encourage participation of all students in Students’ Union.
