Hello, my name’s Aislinn, or Ash if that’s easier. I want students to feel comfortable asking for help and know that they are safe. I’ve been at Solent for four years, hopping from BA Media Production to MA Project management, helping at university events as well as being elected as the Head of Media at Sonar Cinema for a while. I have also experienced first-hand Solent’s friendly wellbeing team and would love the opportunity to help students with them this year!
If elected I would make it my goal to boost the wellbeing resources available to students. I would aim to do this by focusing on improving the levels Interactivity, Awareness, and Support offered by the well-being teams at Solent.
Interactivity – The key to connection is interaction
I plan to introduce an anonymous online feedback and suggestion system, in which students can simply let us know in a safe and secure way how we can improve on what we’re already doing. You could access this system around campus or residences, with a simple QR code to scan, or through a link at the bottom of SU emails which would allow you to let us know how you feel about current events, and subjects we’re talking about, letting your voice be heard.
Awareness – Our services must be more visible
I am planning to put student wellbeing on the main Solent webpage letting prospective students know prior to enrolment that support is always here if they need it. I also plan to make student wellbeing more prominent and interactive at freshers and refreshers fair allowing new students to learn more and introduce them to our friendly welfare team! Additionally, I am planning to send out a small email at the beginning of each semester to encourage anyone who may be feeling low after the break to check in with us.
Support – No student should feel alone
I am planning on increasing the general information around mental health and at home support techniques available on the SU website, as well as on increasing the number of external services available to students, including helpful apps and support techniques. I also plan to provide online zoom sessions providing someone to talk to, who has experience in different support techniques.
