Main manifesto
My name is Renad Mansour and I am running for International Students Officer (non-EU). Being a student representative for the international Foundation Program has not only given me experience and confidence helping other students, but has inspired me to take on bigger challenges and manifest bigger ideas.
It is important that every international student at Solent is heard. That’s why if I am elected I will strive to be the central voice to not only deliver and execute their ideas, but to support them if they’re facing any issues.
I want to increase cultural awareness and celebrate racial diversity. Joining Solent and travelling to the UK influences us international students, and adds to our character. I want the richness and diversity of the world’s cultures to be reflected in Solent. Simple extensions like adding international dishes in the cafeteria, or having an international day to celebrate our cultures together would promote this diversity. From this, I want to inspire international students to participate in activities and positions that will add value to the university and in return add value to all students’ experience.
Speaking of diversity, I aim to start a Solent Podcast where students and staff members around the university come together to discuss their diverse perspectives about a certain topic. The aim of this podcast would be to inspire, educate, and simply entertain students and encourage them to learn and connect more with one another.
Lastly, I feel it is crucial that students have the right information about accommodation, and especially private accommodation. Often it doesn’t include all the necessary safety precautions, or landlords can ask for huge sums of money (payment for up to 6 months). Therefore, I want to increase the availability of accommodation advice. I aim to compose a network where students can share useful advice as well as announce availability of their accommodation after departing from it, giving a chance to other students in need.
Overall, I wish to inspire students, as well as grant them unique opportunities to help them grow, and express themselves more in the university.
