In the coming months, your Students’ Union will be holding the Sabbatical Officer Elections 2016, which for all the newbies out there, means every student will be greeted with a colourful array of bunting, posters, balloons and of course… freebies! But what is this all in the name of?
Solent Students’ Union is run by four Sabbatical Officers who are elected by you into full-time paid positions. As a student at Solent you are automatically part of the Students’ Union and entitled to vote in the election.
Those elected are the foremost political lead of the SU who direct what we do in order to support students in every aspect of their University experience. In other words, you’re a boss!
Being a boss does not require an interview, or prior experience – as long as you can convince a load of students to vote for you, you’re in.
To ensure every aspect is covered, each Sabb role comes with its own responsibilities:
SU President:
The SU President is the primary spokesperson for the Students’ Union and Chair of the Board of Trustees, with ultimate responsibility for all Union activities, providing political leadership to the organisation and coordinating the work of all elected Officers.
VP Education:
They are responsible for representing students on all educational matters and a Trustee of the Students’ Union.
VP Employability & Engagement:
All about representing student membership on all matters relating to employability and is responsible for all societies, volunteering and student led activity.
VP Welfare & Community:
Responsible for representing students on all matters relating to student support, health, safety and wellbeing as well as representing students in the community. They are also a Trustee of the Students’ Union.
If you think you got what it takes to fulfil one of these positions, nominate yourself using the link below. Nominations close 22nd February.
