Welcome to Part II of our definitive bucket list. It's packed full of amazing things for you to go and see during your time in the Vibrant Southampton City.
26. Visit Winchester Christmas Market
Winchester is a beautiful place over Christmas, so why not get on a train and have a look round? It’s worth it.
27. Attend Frisky Fridays at Solent SU
What better way to end the month than £1.50 drinks?
28. Karaoke at The Edge
Nothing quite completes a night than howling down a microphone attempting ‘That’s what makes you beautiful’ thinking you are or the next Zayn Malik. You can’t fail to have a good time in The Box Bar at the Edge. Its friendly, inviting and a keystone in the Solent nightlife calendar.
29. Attend a free film screening at Harbour Lights Picture House
Harbour Lights is one of the many Picture Houses across the UK hosting the E4 Slackers Club. So if you’re ever stuck for something to do on a Thursday, why not head down and grab yourselves a free film? Membership is free with an NUS Extra Card!
30. Tweet @SolentSU and @SolentOfficial
Because we love to hear from you.
31. Have a chat with a Sabb
They don’t bite, and they’re here exclusively for you!
32. Join a sports team
Enjoy sport? There are over 30 sports teams you can join at Solent Sport where you can access their amazing facilities and fitness programmes. For more information, visit: www.solent.ac.uk/sport/solent-sport.aspx
33. Take part in Campaign with Solent SU
Your SU runs many campaigns throughout the year which you can get involved in. If you want to run a campaign, get in touch with a sabb or email: student.involvement@solent.ac.uk.
34. Get locked out of your room at Halls
You have gone to the kitchen to make Asda brand pasta. You hear the subtle vibration of your iPhone and you wander back to your room. You check your pocket for your key and it hits you. Your key fob is next to your phone, which is vibrating away without a care in the world. The shuffle down to reception is shaming enough.
35. Attend a House party
When the night club is just too far away or you are just so skint that you are reduced to playing the previous tenants' left over board game whilst Shake It Off plays in the background. You know it’s a good night when the kitchen is rammed. It's always happening in the kitchen at parties.
36. Spend too much on supplies at Paperchase
Because who doesn’t need a pencil with a top hat and rubber with a monocle? With the loyalty card at Paperchase you get a £5 voucher on your birthday. Head on over there and never regret buying that sequined pencil case.
38. Get a Cheeky Nandos opposite SM building
Think you’re the Arch Bishop of Banterbury? Or just taking your bantersaurus out for a walk? Head on down to Nando's during your cheeky break and enjoy their piri piri burger. Top. You’ll smash it.
39. Come to coffee club!
The sun has risen. You are not worthy. A night of cramming revision or battling TurnItIn has taken its toll. Join the Coffee club for an eclectic mix of discounted teas and coffees from 9am – 12pm at the SU Bar to get you through your day of lectures so you can return to your slumber at the end of the day. Just remember the coffee is always here for you.
Not only is it the name of the only healthy food you will probably eat. It’s also the name of the Club/Bar that provides a variety of nights, great atmosphere and a killer league and bar.
42. Go to Ikea and eat Meatballs
Sometimes a good trip to Ikea is just what the doctor ordered. Not only is their membership, showrooms, products and everything amazing, but the meatballs are pretty good too! And if you’re a non-meat eater, they also have vegetarian/vegan meatballs.
43. Go to a gig at one of Southampton’s Independent Venues
Enjoy live music? Looking for a gig that’s a little more intimate than your average O2 Arena? Then you’ll enjoy Southampton’s independent venues. From The Joiners to The Talking Heads, there’s definitely a place out there to satisfy your musical taste buds.
With rotating plays and a constant star studded stage nothing quite shakes up a dull Saturday afternoon like seeing the Lion King on stage. Just don’t try and sing the opening song!
45. Go for a night out at Switch
Generations of Solent graduates have enjoyed Southampton's most advanced music venue bringing you the biggest artists every Saturday with epic sound & light!
46. Run for Sabbatical Officer position in the SU Elections
Nothing looks better on your CV than a saying that you volunteer and take part in activities in your free time. Sabbatical elections are politically charged and great for anyone wanting to sharpen their teeth and get on the political stage to truly make a difference to the student experience.
47. All-nighter in the Library
Infamous all-nighters at the Mountbatten Library – are they fun? Not really, but with a couple of friends and a few million cups of coffee to see you through the long night ready for deadlines/exams the following day and you might just stay sane. Sorry, but like the rest of our bucket list, we needed to be honest.
49. Make University of Southampton friends
The rivalry between the two universities maybe true for some, but there’s nothing wrong with a little light hearted banter – you may find they’re also quite nice!
50. Go to a vintage fair
For all you vintage lovers out there, there’s a Vintage Fayre at The Guildhall once a month (usually), full of some fantastic one-off vintage clothes, furniture and accessories. So put on your finest monocle or most colourful tie dye top.
