Solent Students' Union has been awarded external funding to support Faith & Beliefs Initiatives by the National Union of Students (NUS).
In the past two years, we have successfully supported the creation of two new student faith societies (Islamic Society and Sikh Society) in addition to our existing two student faith societies (Christian Union and Believers Loveworld).Â
Overall engagement in this project from our students from faith backgrounds will help to raise awareness and communication of the services available to faith students within the Union as well as help create new faith societies, provide a safe, social, student-led space within the SU, improve University and Union facilities and services
The funding will be used to recruit and support student volunteers from a mix of different faith backgrounds to complete Faith Audits in the Students' Union and University campus.
Volunteers will be supported by the SU to deliver their findings to the University Interfaith Forum to make real change at Southampton Solent University, and to develop strong student representation at the Interfaith Forum. The Students' Union currently have an active Christian Union and Islamic Society, with a new Sikh society just starting up after a successful Freshers period. We welcome students from all backgrounds and will be additionally using the funding to support the creation of new faith societies of different backgrounds.
