Hi, I’m Kim Hills-Harrop!
Yes, I know that is quite a mouthful so let’s settle for Kim Hill. I am a Television and Video Production student in my final year of studying and I’ve loved every moment but none of it would have been smooth sailing without support from our sabbatical team and that is one reason why I’ve decided to run for VP Welfare for 2016/2017.
MY OBJECTIVES
More support for students transitioning into university life!
You have Freshers’ Fayre, exciting nights out and everything to look forward to before you have even dragged yourself into your first lecture but I think we need more. For most of us, moving into university accommodation and higher education can be quite a daunting prospect. How do you budget? Can you survive on just ready meals? How do you even go about looking for a house in your second year? Is your mental health intact with those deadlines?
Warsash Who?
Let’s not forget Warsash!
Following on from my predecessor, I agree that there is still much that Warsash could improve upon for the wellbeing of its student body. For one, I’ve heard from students that they are concerned about their food provider with issues concerning the subsidised meal cards that barely cover everything and this means that some cadets are going without.
It’s time for better housing!
We all know the tradition of housing agencies informing students that they need to get straight onto finding a house just a few months after settling into university – Now, this is quite simply ridiculous! It is misleading advertising which usually leads to shoddy excuses for housing. If I’m elected for Welfare, I would like to implement a better way for students to find affordable and safe housing without stress!
Who am I?
I am an outspoken student in my third and final year of studying who truly knows the importance of having someone on your side – Your sabbatical team. You want someone who can truly speak up for the student body and I feel that I would be a great candidate for this opportunity. I make films, hide in Studio Solent and often present a show on Radio Sonar – Your student station.
The student union has been a beneficial part of my time at university and I’d love to be a part of that!
