NUS Extra
What is it?
NUS Extra is THE student lifestyle card, with over 100 exclusive discounts online and on the high street. It is valid for one year, August – August.
What discounts are available?
With NUS Extra you can enjoy discounts throughout the year from a range of student friendly outlets. Here are our top ten:
- 20% off at Pizza Hut and Pizza Hut delivery
- 5% off amazon.co.uk
- 10% off the student price at Odeon cinemas
- 10% off at Warehouse
- 10% off at Superdrug
- 10% off at megabus.com
- 10% off at JJB Sports
- Up to 15% off Mac products at the Apple store
- Constantly updated offers with Ticketmaster
- Free medium fries when you buy a Big Mac or McChicken sandwich at McDonald’s
In addition, we will be offering various discounts at the Students’ Union for those with an NUS Extra card – keep an eye on the website and noticeboards for more info.

How much is it?
The NUS Extra card costs £10, £4 of which goes to the Students’ Union. As we are a non-profit organisation, any money we make is used to improve the Union for you. Last year we made almost £6,000, which we used to redecorate the wi-fi lounge, refurbish the Sin Radio studios and to run our Shuttle Bus service. We also purchased a roof rack for our minibus, enabling sports teams to take more equipment with them on trips.
This year our target is to make £8,000, which we will use to help subsidise Union events such as Whammed, and the Summer Festival – meaning cheaper ticket prices for you!
We are also looking for other ways to use the money. If you have any suggestions on how you would like us to improve the Union for students, let us know!
How do I get one?
There are several different ways you can buy your NUS Extra card.
You can buy it online through www.nus.org.uk. You pay by credit or debit card and the card will be delivered to the Students’ Union within 7 working days. Once it has been sent, you will be notified by email, and you can collect it from the Administration & Representation Office on the first floor. There is a ‘future pay’ option online for those who will want to renew their cards next year.
Alternatively you can purchase the card in the wi-fi lounge on the first floor of the Students’ Union. If you have a passport-size photo and your £10 payment we can make the card up for you there and then, so you can start enjoying the benefits immediately. Don’t worry if you don’t have a photo though – you will be able to use our laptop to order online, using a photo taken with our webcam. With this method you can choose to pay by credit or debit card, or cash.
We will also have a stand at our Freshers’ Fair and at Moving In Weekend, with instant cards for those with payment and photo.
ISIC
ISIC stands for International Student Identity Card. This card is particularly useful for international students, or those planning to travel abroad during the year. It offers 40,000 discounts worldwide, and is recognised in 120 countries including the UK.
On its own, an ISIC card costs £9, but if you buy it alongside an NUS Extra card you will get the two for just £11, saving you £8. This option is only available online, but is well worth it if you plan to travel.
